Tianchang branch of ABB Engineering (Shanghai) addresses demand from domestic and overseas markets with leading products
Anhui, January 12, 2010 –ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, announced today the Tianchang branch of ABB Engineering (Shanghai) officially began production in Tianchang, Anhui. ABB’s latest global center for its instrumentation business manufactures temperature and pressure measurement devices and introduces the world-leading SkyTemp TSP100-series industrial temperature transducer for local production. The new production center further expands ABB’s instrumentation product portfolio and capacity so as to meet the increasing demands of the domestic and overseas markets.
Tobias Becker, head of ABB’s Process Automation Division of ABB North Asia Region and ABB China, spoke at the opening ceremony: “ABB is one of the world’s leading instrumentation suppliers boasting more than 150 years of experience. As the latest global production center for our instrumentation business, the new company will leverage the group’s technology strength and global business footprint to enhance product offerings for the local market, further consolidating ABB’s leadership. Furthermore, it is yet another example of our commitment to the introduction of our world leading technology to improve the competitive edge of ‘Chinese Design’.”
Mr. Zhang Lubiao, member of the standing committee and deputy mayor, Chuzhou City of Anhui Province, said at the ceremony, “the latest investment of ABB Engineering (Shanghai) in Tianchang City unveils a brand new chapter in our cooperation with leading global companies. The project will boost the development of many industries and companies in Tianchang City, while driving the leap-forward development and the take-off of local industrial economy.”
The Tianchang branch, covering 15,000 square meters, engages in the production of temperature and pressure instruments and offers the Tianyi-series and Skytemp-series temperature product lines. In addition to domestic customers, the Skytemp-series products also ship to other Asian markets including Korea, Singapore and Malaysia. The company’s pressure device offerings feature onsite pressure gauges and pressure transmitters.
ABB’s advanced SkyTemp TSP100-series industrial temperature transducer, featuring higher accuracy and lower installation and maintenance costs than conventional products, are used in a variety of industries including oil and gas, photochemical, power, cement, metal, paper, water treatment and mechanical manufacturing. The Sky Temp TSP100-seriers has attained anti-explosion certification in compliance with ATEX and NEPSI standards and is suitable for harsh operating environments. In addition, pressure transmitters, level gauges and other leading instruments will also be introduced for local production in the new center step by step.
As a key global production center of ABB’s temperature and pressure instruments, the Tianchang factory boasts a wide range of advanced facilities including a metal processing workshop, a metal shielding workshop, and a dual-metal detection lab. The metal processing workshop, the most advanced in Asia, employs state-of-the-art drilling technology in the production of integral protective bushings of metal parts. The bushings are weldless and identical in wall thickness, remarkably improving service life and performance while ensuring product quality and technical standards of the metal parts.

In addition to the new Tianchang production center, ABB’s instrumentation business unit operates a number of production bases in the UK, Italy, Germany, the United States and Shanghai. Both the production center in Pudong, Shanghai and the one in Tianchang are affiliated with ABB Engineering (Shanghai). The Shanghai Center is equipped with production lines for pressure transmitters, transducers, flowmeters and analytical measurement devices. The opening of the Tianchang center enables ABB to combine the strength and capacity of the two centers and expand its product portfolio and offerings in China.
