Record-breaking number of over 28,000 trade attendees from 24 countries (10% increase)
306 exhibitors from all over the world, covering 11,500 square meters of floor space
First-class conferences co-organized with leading industry associations
Government support under the umbrella of the Shanghai International IT and Electronics Fair for showcasing the whole spectrum of the electronics industry
The “electronica & Productronica China 2009” trade show was held successfully again at the Shanghai New International Expo Center from 17 – 19 March 2009. Although it took place under the shadow of an economic crisis, this year’s electronica & Productronica China still gathered 306 exhibitors from the field of electronic components and manufacturing equipment, 40% of which hailed from outside China. The show covered a total of 11,500 square meters (m2) of floor space and attracted over 28,000 visitors, which broke another record. These numbers demonstrate strong faith in the Chinese electronics industry and in the position that electronica & Productronica China enjoys.

Opportunity and challenge coexist, confidence is returning
The economic crisis is impeding the global electronics industry and bringing new challenges to the trade shows. Despite that, large numbers of exhibitors still seized this opportunity to explore new markets and consolidate customer relationships, which is further proof that “only the courageous take rough roads.” Dr. Chris Bruhwiler, president and CEO of ERNI Asia said, “Despite the worldwide financial crisis and economic slowdown, we are still very confident about the Chinese market. It’s my first time participating in electronica & Productronica China. I am impressed how busy it was and for sure we will come next time.”
A total of 306 exhibitors from 17 countries presented at the show this year, 40% of which were from outside China. The show also featured leading companies, such as EPCOS, Omron, Bosch, Weidmuller, ERNI, MECANO, KOMAX, FARATRONIC, Schleuniger, ShinMaywa and national pavilions from Germany, Japan and Taiwan. Compared to 2008, the amount of floor space that electronica & Productronica China occupied this year dropped slightly to 11,500 m2. “However, in consideration of the current circumstances, it is good enough. Exhibitors have shown their confidence in and expectations for the Chinese market as well as for the future of the electronics industry,” said Klaus Dittrich, Managing Director of Messe Muenchen International.

Strong attendee participation exceeds expectations
The large number of attendees and business transactions brought the exhibitors unexpected opportunities despite the difficult economic environment. A record-breaking number of over 28,000 visitors from 24 countries participated in the show, which represents a 10% increase over last year. The best-represented countries/districts outside of China were Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan and Malaysia. In addition, visitor quality has also improved. Experts, industry leaders, decision-makers and buyers flocked to the show.

Mr. Alan Tan, General Manager of Schleuniger Trading (Shanghai) Co., Ltd, commented, “We have participated since the first version of electronica & Productronica China. We are very satisfied with the visitor quantity this year. The best of all is that the quality of visitors is much better and more professional.” Mr. Simon Wu, PCB connectors product manager for Weidmuller Interface International Trading (Shanghai), and Ms. Yang Wenbo, marketing supervisor for Mecano Components (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., also expressed their satisfaction with the quality and quantity of the attendees at the trade show, especially with regard to the criteria of professionalism.
Besides the high-quality attendees, exhibitors were also able to benefit from co-exhibitors by sharing the experience and generating business together. In such difficult times, electronica & Productronica China was also an ideal professional platform for discussing measures for confronting the economic winter and finding the road ahead.
Accompanying Events Discuss Industry Trends
High-quality accompanying events have always been a unique characteristic of electronica & Productronica China. On this particular occasion, the “IPC – Association Connecting Electronics Industries” joined hands for the first time with Messe Muenchen International for the CEMAC 2009 conference to better serve the industry and help member companies succeed. Furthermore, many speakers from the industry joined in the forums. This included representatives from companies such as Volkswagen, FAW, Murata, Freescale, Bosch, Delphi and NXP at the 2009 International Conference on Advanced Automotive Electronics Technology. Furthermore, Infineon, Ericsson, STMicroelectronics, Mitsubishi, Fairchild Semiconductor, and SEMIKRON participated in the Symposium on Future Developments and Applications of Power Electronics Technology. A total of 64 speaker presentations were held by 65 experts, providing a platform for sharing knowledge and experience. Over 1,200 visitors participated in the conferences.
Four-show Synergy with Strong Government Support
This year, electronica & Productronica China 2009 again joined hands with LASER World of PHOTonICS China 2009, SEMICON China and the CPCA Show under the umbrella of the Shanghai International IT and Electronics Fair (SIIEF). SIIEF 2009 filled nearly 9 exhibition halls and covered more than 110,000 m2 of floor space. This synergy produced China’s largest electronics trade show and provided attendees with a tremendous platform for communicating and sharing ideas. SIIEF 2009 has received great support from the government and from industry associations. Senior government officials, such as Lou Qinjian, vice minister from the Ministry of Industry and Information, Ai Baojun, vice mayor of Shanghai, and Li Yiping, director of Shanghai Pudong New Area, presented at the show.
The “electronica & Productronica China 2010” trade show will be held at the Shanghai New International Expo Center from 16 – 18 March 2010.
