Wellingborough, England (19 February 2009) - Over 26 million new nodes were installed in industrial automation networks in 2007, This estimate comes from a recently published report from IMS Research; sixteen major product groups were analysed to assess their networking capabilities and use.
Despite current economic uncertainties, the report concluded that the average annual growth rate of the numbers of all new nodes installed between 2007 and 2013 would be 7.8%. Ethernet will grow more than twice as fast as the overall average.
John Morse, the author of the report commented “Assessing the market from product data has allowed us to get a clearer picture of where different protocols are used; it also highlighted the considerable regional differences in their likely use.”
Morse continued “Another of the report’s findings was, of the different products, just how influential sensors would be, on how the market would develop”.
